Justo Mwale University is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Devison Telen Banda as Acting Vice Chancellor, effective 31st December 2025, until further notice.

Distinguished Academic and Professional Background

Prof. Banda brings to this role a wealth of experience and expertise in theology, education, and public administration. A professor of New Testament, he has served in higher education for more than 25 years, contributing significantly to theological scholarship and academic leadership.

He holds a PhD in New Testament Interpretation from the University of the Free State, South Africa, and a Master of Arts in Political Science & Public Administration from Sam Houston State University, USA. His interdisciplinary training uniquely bridges biblical hermeneutics, African cultural studies, and political theology.

Prof. Banda previously served as Head of the Department of Biblical Studies at Justo Mwale University, where he provided visionary leadership in curriculum development, faculty mentorship, and institutional growth. He has an outstanding record of supervising doctoral and master’s candidates, guiding emerging scholars toward academic excellence and impactful research.

A prolific author and researcher, Prof. Banda’s work explores the dynamic intersection of New Testament hermeneutics, African cultural contexts, and political theology, advancing contextualized theological discourse in Africa and beyond. His publications are widely recognized for their depth, originality, and relevance to contemporary theological challenges.

Internationally, Prof. Banda is acknowledged as a global voice in African theology. He has delivered keynote lectures, participated in scholarly fellowships, and engaged in ecumenical dialogues across Africa, Europe, and North America. His contributions have enriched cross-cultural theological conversations, strengthened academic networks, and positioned African perspectives at the forefront of global theological scholarship.

All new entrants are required to complete their registration by Wednesday, 7th January 2026. Kindly note that failure to register by this deadline will result in forfeiture of the admission offer, and the place will be allocated to candidates on the waiting list.
