Public Lecture at Justo Mwale University

Public Lecture at Justo Mwale University

On Friday, March 17, we had the honor of hosting a Public Lecture at Justo Mwale University, celebrating the contributions of Rev. Thijs Blok and Mrs. Marike Sijtsma-Blok. These esteemed lecturers, who were sent to JMU by the PCN in 2018, will be departing at the end of April 2023, and the lecture served as a tribute to their time with us.

The theme of the lecture was “Prayers in the Psalms.” Mrs. Sijtsma-Blok delivered a presentation titled “Praying the Psalms: Theological and Practical Perspectives,” while the BTh 1 class enriched the event by performing Psalm 133 in Hebrew. Rev. Blok followed with his talk on “Praying the Psalms: Hermeneutical and Practical Perspectives.”

Rev. Naomi Daka and Associate Professor Lameck Banda provided insightful responses to the presentations, fostering a deeper dialogue on the topic.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Bloks for their invaluable presence and contributions at JMU. Their impact will be remembered for years to come, and we offer our prayers for God’s grace and mercy in their future ministry endeavors.

New Publication on Integrative Theological Education in Africa

New Publication on Integrative Theological Education in Africa

We are excited to announce the release of an important new book titled Making Connections, edited by Professor Marilyn Naidoo. This insightful work focuses on Integrative Theological Education in Africa and encompasses various perspectives and experiences from the continent.

We are proud to share that two of our JMU lecturers contributed chapters to this significant publication. Professor D.T. Banda explored “The Challenge of Integrative Curriculum Design: A Zambian Case Study,” providing valuable insights into the complexities of curriculum development in the context of theological education in Zambia. Additionally, Mrs. Marike Blok authored a chapter titled “Women with Capacity: Gender and Theological Education,” highlighting the critical intersection of gender and education in theological contexts.

This book is a vital addition to the discourse on theological education in Africa, and we commend our faculty members for their contributions to this important work.
