Historical Background

Justo Mwale University is a comprehensive institution offering diverse theological, educational, business, and vocational training programs in all fields and disciplines. It was established in 1951 as a theological training college for ministers of the Reformed Church in Zambia (RCZ) and later transformed into Justo Mwale Theological College in honor of the first Zambian ordained minister of the Reformed Church in Zambia, Rev. Justo Mwale, in 1975. The college’s board was subsequently expanded to include other churches with students at JMTC in 1989, and 2008, they transformed it into a university college.

Following the commencement of open and distance learning programs in 2011, the university continued to expand its academic offerings. As of 2014, Justo Mwale University had become a fully accredited university, aiming at further expanding program delivery and transforming into a fully-fledged university with an initial three schools, namely, the School of Theology and Religion, the School of Education, and the School of Business Studies.

The university is registered with the Zambia Qualifications Authority, the Higher Education Authority, and the Technical Education, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Training Authority and has collaborations with various international universities and organizations. With substantial investments in infrastructure, educational quality, and international recognition, Justo Mwale University has become one of the leading theological institutions in Southern and Central Africa. The Accrediting Council for Theological Education in Africa accredited the Diploma in Theology program in 1991 and the Bachelor of Theology program in 1997, further affirming the institution’s excellence and quality of education.
